Walk for Wellness

Grab a friend and join a group of participants every Tuesday and Thursday for our indoor walking program.  In this program, you will enjoy the benefits of walking and staying active as the weather is colder and the days are shorter.  This class is for all walking levels.  Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water and join us as we walk for wellness!  Please Note: Start time is anytime from 4:45 pm and all participants must be done by 8 pm.  This will allow you the flexibility of a schedule that works for you!  If school is cancelled due to weather, there will be no class. 

Sunset & Snowshoeing Under the Light of the Wolf Moon

Get your hearts pumping and experience the magic of an early winter sunset and an evening under the light of the first Full Moon in 2020 as we trek our way up to the top of Streaked Mountain. Snowshoeing at night offers you the opportunity to see a totally different world than you experience during the day and have the chance to experience the brilliance of the moon when it shines its brightest and lights our way.

Please Note: Weather permitting. Keep in mind, there is approximately an hour between sunset and moonrise, so make sure to dress accordingly, dress in layers, and make sure to have a hat and gloves. It can get cold and windy at the top of Streaked. Headlamps or flashlights optional. Don’t forget to bring water and a snack.

Snowshoeing with the Goats

If you are looking for some winter fun and a great outdoor activity, join Stephens Memorial Hospital and Ten Apple Farm for a snowshoe hike through the woods with a herd of Alpine Dairy Goats. This hike is approximately a 2-mile loop on fairly well maintained trails with a small amount of steep terrain. Along the way, you are able to interact with the goats and learn all about raising and caring for the goats. After the snowshoe hike, you will have the opportunity to milk the goats and enjoy some fresh goat milk and cookies. You will need to provide you own snowshoes. Please note weather permitting.

Dogsledding Adventure

Let’s enjoy the winter….Join Stephens Memorial Hospital and HeartSong Kennel for a fun dogsledding adventure. You will start with meeting and learning all about the dogs as well as some general history and interesting facts about dogsledding. You will have an opportunity to help harness the dogs in preparation for a 10-minute basket ride through the snow. Make sure to dress warm (think layers), Sunglasses or goggles are recommended. Weather permitting. Space is limited.

Very Important: Registration is required.  Unfortunately walk-ins can not be accepted day of event. 


Snowshoe Balsam Ridge Christmas Tree Farm

Bring your snowshoes and join Stephens Memorial Hospital and Balsam Ridge® Christmas Tree and Maple Syrup Farm to enjoy a fun and scenic trek through the Christmas trees and sugar bush during “Maple Tapping Season”. This hike consists of an approximately a 1 mile loop over glacially carved terrain to observe the modern day practices associated with maple syrup production. Along the way, you will see fields of Christmas trees and observe Maple tree tapping using an interconnected tubing system for sap collection. Afterwards you can enjoy some hot chocolate, maple syrup sampling and there will be products available for purchase. There will also be an open forum/discussion for anyone interested in backyard sugaring.       Please note: weather permitting

Snowshoeing Hike - Overset Pond

Explore the snow covered trails as we trek through the area that loops along the Sanborn River, Overset Pond and to the top of Overset Mountain. Join SMH and Lorie Olson, Maine native and avid hiker for this hike, which is approximately 5 miles. From the top, you will have a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding hills and mountains.

Snowshoeing Hike - White Cap

Let’s get out, enjoy winter and get some exercise too! Join SMH and Lorie Olson, Maine native and avid hiker as we snowshoe 5.8 miles on a moderate trail to the summit of Whitecap that will provide breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
